Highlanders Claim Second Seed for Big South Tournament

Radford, Va. - Radford’s softball team will enter the Big South Tournament as the No. 2 seed after finishing second in the regular season, one game behind top seeded Winthrop (36-21-1, 9-3 Big South). The Highlanders (38-23, 8-4), who had their best Big South finish since 1999, will face No. 7 Charleston Southern (18-39, 1-9) in Game Two on Thursday at 5 pm.

Bracket

Game One will feature fourth-seeded Coastal Carolina (22-23, 6-6) vs. fifth-seeded Birmingham-Southern (24-29, 5-7), who won the tiebreaker with Liberty (20-30, 5-7) due to splitting the regular season with Winthrop. The sixth-seeded Lady Flames will square off against third-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (35-8, 6-4) in Game Three.

The first three games on Thursday will take place at 5:00 pm, followed by Game Four, Game Five and Game Six at 7:00 pm. Game Four will pit No. 1 Winthrop vs. the winner of the Coastal Carolina/Birmingham-Southern match-up, the winner of the Radford/Charleston Southern meeting will take on the winner of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi/Liberty contest in Game Five, while Game Six features the loser of the Radford/Charleston Southern game vs. the loser of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first consolation meeting.

The remaining consolation games and winner's bracket semifinals will be played Friday, while the Championship Game begins at 3:00 pm on Saturday. The winner of the 2005 Big South Conference Softball Championship will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, which will begin Friday, May 20 at yet-to-be-determined campus sites.
