Felix No-Hits Delaware; Highs Fall to San Jose State in Championship Game Norfolk, Va. - Sophomore Breanna Felix (Spring Valley, Calif.) tossed a no-hitter as the Highlanders defeated Delaware, 1-0 in their first game of the day. The win put the Highlanders in the Championship game of the MASCUA Softball Tournament which they dropped 5-1 to San Jose State. It was Felix's first no-hitter of the season and third shutout of the tournament. She struck out one and did not walk a batter. The Highlanders scored the lone run in the second on a one-out RBI double by senior Sara Beth Clayton (Chesapeake, Va.). She plated junior Danielle Tompkins (Equality, Ill.) who led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second. Freshman Ashley Carlson (Chesapeake, Va.) went 2-for-3 at the plate for RU. In the championship game, San Jose State used a four-run sixth inning to open up a close game and earn the victory. Sophomore Michelle Carlson (Chesapeake, Va.) went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Highs, while junior Amanda Walling (Summerville, S.C.) knocked in RU's lone run in the seventh with a single. Freshman Ashley Taylor (Ringgold, Va.) suffered the loss, giving up all five runs on 11 hits. She struck out three and walked one batter. Radford returns home on Wednesday, March 2 when it hosts Campbell at 3 pm. |
