Charlotte, N.C. - Junior catcher Amanda Walling (Summerville, S.C.) was selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while sophomore Breanna Felix (Spring Valley, Calif.) earned New Balance Co-Pitcher of the Week for softball, announced today by the League Office. Felix shared the award with Liberty’s Sarah Swor.
Walling went 12-26 for a .462 batting average in nine games last week, with a triple, a home run, eight RBI and five runs scored. She also slugged .654 and threw out 7-of-9 runners attempting to steal. In RU’s doubleheader ag
ainst Longwood, Walling went 4-6 with four RBI and followed that up by hitting the game-winning homer vs. East Tennessee State. At the Longwood Invitational, Walling was 7-16 (.438) with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored. She also played one game at third base and was perfect in the field in eight attempts.
Felix went 4-0 in four starts for the Highlanders last week, pitching 26.1 innings with a 0.80 ERA and just two walks. She struck out 22 and held opponents to a .172 batting average. Felix tied a school record on Saturday with 14 strikeouts in a complete game shutout of UNC Wilmington and also limited East Tennessee State to an unearned run and three hits in a 2-1 victory earlier in the week.

For the season, Walling leads Radford with a .336 batting average, 22 RBI and a .509 slugging percentage. Felix is 18-9 with a 1.75 ERA and 131 strikeouts. She is just three wins and nine strikeouts shy from breaking RU’s single-season records in both categories.
