Kvilhaug Named Co-Coach of the Year; Three Highlanders on First Team

Rock Hill, S.C. - After leading Radford to the most wins in school history, head coach Amy Kvilhaug was named Co-Coach of the Year, sharing the award with Winthrop head coach Mark Cooke, announced at the post season awards banquet. Also, three Highlanders were honored as first team members and one on the second team.

Senior rightfielder Ashley Smith, junior catcher Amanda Walling and sophomore pitcher Bre Felix were all named to the first team. Senior second basemaCo-Coach of the Year and All Conference Honoreesn Lara Wohlgemuth earned second team honors. She also was named to the All-Academic Team.

The Highlanders have won 39 games this season and set several team and individual records under the guidance of their third-year head coach. Along with the victories, RU has hit the most home runs and the pitchers have combined for the highest strikeout total and are on the verge of posting the lowest ERA in school history.

Smith broke the career RBI record (125) at the end of the season and has hit a career high 10 this year, two shy of the single-season mark. She leads RU in home runs, slugging percentage and on base percentage. Walling is having her best season in a Highlander uniform, leading the team in batting average and RBI. She’s also thrown out a Big South high 18 runners. Felix has set the single-season win (26) and strikeout (200) records, as well as tying the single-season and career shutout record. Her wins are the second most in the Conference.

Wohlgemuth, a Liberal Arts graduate with concentrations in biology and sociology, broke the career hits (227) and walks (70) record at Radford.
