Highlanders Blank ETSU Behind Bosley and Felix
Johnson City, Tenn. --Radford received a pair of complete game shutouts from Jen Bosley (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and Breanna Felix (Spring Valley, Calif./Mount Miguel) as they swept East Tennessee State by the scores of 6-0 and 3-0 this afternoon. The Highlanders improve to 22-23, while the Lady Buccaneers fall to In game one, Radford broke open an 1-0 game with a five-run fourth and cruised behind Bosley to the win. Bosley scattered six hits, struck out two and walked four to improve to 12-11 on the year. In the top of the fourth, the Highlanders exploded for five runs thanks to three hits, a pair of walks and an ETSU error. The key hit was a two-run single by Sara Beth Clayton (Chesapeake, Va./Louisburg College). For the game, Tompkins and Clayton collected a pair of RBIs, while Casey and Amanda Walling (Summerville, S.C./Stratford) each had two hits with Casey scoring two runs as well. ETSU's Courtney Jenkins (2-6) suffered the loss. For the Lady Bucs, Rhea Holler and Mary Beth Hazelwood notched two hits apiece. Game two saw RU score three runs in the third and Felix (4-7) give up just three hits to earn the sweep. Felix finished with six strikeouts and walked just one. In the third, three-straight singles off the bats of Lara Wohlgemuth (Centreville, Va./Chantilly), Lindsay Woody (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Clayton loaded the bases. A walk to Ashley Smith (Roanoke, Va./Northside) brought home one run and then a two-out, two-run single by Casey did the rest of the damage. Walling and Woody finished the game with a pair of hits. For ETSU, Belinda Barerra took the loss at dropped to 8-9 on the season. Radford returns home tomorrow when they host Appalachian State at 4 p.m. |
