Highlanders Downed By Western Kentucky, 5-1 at Buzz Classic

Atlanta, Ga. -- Radford (6-20) was defeated by Western Kentucky (15-14), 5-1 in their final game at the Buzz Classic. After winning their opening game against Lipscomb, the Highlanders dropped their final three games of the tournament.

Radford fell behind 3-0 in the second inning as WKU's Bailey Rolfs plated a pair with a double and knocked starter Jennifer Bosley out of the game. After a walk by Deana Benner, Riley Garcia made it 3-0 with a RBI single.

The Highlanders got on the board in the bottom of the second as Amanda Walling and Glynn Tolleson executed a double steal, scoring Tolleson who reach on a single. She finished the game 3-for-3.

Radford had opportunities to even things up on a couple of occasions, but stranded five runners in scoring position and seven for the game. Their best chance came in the fourth. They put runners on second and third on back-to-back one-out singles and a double steal by Tina Rogers and Tolleson, but they were stranded as Walling hit one back to the box and Amber Drexel struck out to end the inning.

Western Kentucky added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Allison Silver (7-6) picked up the win, scattering six hits, striking out five and walking two. Bosley (5-9) suffered the loss after giving up three runs on four hits and walking one in an inning of work. Garcia, Dana Ray, Samantha Hansen and Rolfs each had a pair of hits for the Hilltoppers.

The Highlanders will be in action on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when they play their rescheduled doubleheader at Virginia Tech.
