Highlanders Earn Split With Aggies

Greensboro, N.C. -- Hallie East made the most of her first collegiate appearance and start, throwing five innings of shutout ball, helping the Highlanders win game two 11-0 and earn a split with North Carolina A&T. The Aggies took game one 5-0, behind a three-hit shutout by Latronda Anderson.

East, making an emergency start in game two, picked up the five-inning complete game victory. Never stepping on the mound in a collegiate game, East allowed five hits, struck out two and walked two. She also helped herself out at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.

Eight of Radford's nine starters picked up a hit as the Highlanders pounded out 14 hits. Along with East, Lara Wohlgemuth, Amanda Walling and Tina Rogers each had a pair of hits. Wohlgemuth had a pair of RBI and scored two runs as well.

After being shutout in game one, the Highlanders wasted little time as they scored three runs in the first, all with two out. East and Walling each knocked in a run with RBI singles.

The Highlanders put the game out of reach in the third, scoring seven runs as they sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning. Ashley Smith and Wohlgemuth provided the big hits in the inning. With the bases loaded, Smith hit a two-run double to center, followed by Wohlgemuth's triple that scored Smith and Donita Brady.

In game one, Radford could not solve Anderson. She allowed three hits, struck out two and walked two to earn the complete game victory. Jennifer Bosley suffered the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out eight.

The Aggies scored all the runs they would need in the first with a pair that was capped off by an RBI single by Lorraine Geiger. They would add a single run in the fourth and put two more on the board in the sixth, courtesy of Sibol Loftin's two-run homer.

Radford returns to the field on Thursday for a Big South doubleheader with Charleston Southern. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
