Under his guidance, the Highlanders totaled 65 All-Conference student-athletes including 19 champions (17 individuals, three relays) during the indoor and outdoor seasons. He has also led the men's indoor team to two consecutive second place finishes, their highest ever, in the Big South Championships. Terry's student-athletes are not only successful on the track but they also get it done in the classroom. Goran Nava, former track standout, earned the USTA in the 2002-03 season and was named to the 2003 Division I All Academic Track and Field team. He became Radford's first track athlete to receive first team Verizon Academic All American honors. In 2004 Nava became Radford's and the Big South Conference's first two-time first team Academic All-American, and was named to the CoSida Academic All-American District III team. From 1998 to 2001, Terry was the assistant men's and women's track and field coach at University of Detroit Mercy. During that time, he coached over 25 individual Midwestern Collegiate Conference champions. He guided the women's team to one indoor and two outdoor conference championships and the men's indoor to one championship. He also served as the Director of Student-Athlete Development from 1999 to 2001. Terry also enjoyed a successful collegiate career as a top student-athlete at Indiana University. As a freshman, he established himself as one of the best hurdlers in the country and was also a key contributor in the sprints. In his first year at the Big Ten indoor meet, he tied for first in the 200-meter and was runner-up in both the 55-meter hurdles and 55-meter dash. He went on to earn All-American status at his first NCAA Indoor meet, placing third in the 55 hurdles. The Cincinnati native continued to excel, as he went on to be a two-time NCAA high hurdle champion, six-time All-American and six-time Big Ten Conference Champion. He accomplished the feat of NCAA champion in 1993 when he took home the honor in the 55-meter hurdles at the Indoor Championships and ended his stellar four-year career with a win in the 110-meter hurdles at the Outdoor Championships. His 1993 indoor campaign earned his Big Ten Indoor Athlete of the Year as a senior. He still holds three Indiana records in the 55-meter indoor hurdles (7.09), 110-meter outdoor hurdles (13.36) and as a member of the 1992 4x100 outdoor team (39.62). In 1992, he was a U.S. Olympic Trials Finalist and finished fourth at the USA Mobil Championships in 1993. After his graduation, Terry returned to the Olympic Trials and competed as a semi-finalist in 1996. Terry graduated from Indiana with a B.A. in criminal justice in 1993 and a M.A. in educational administration from Detroit in 2001. |
