Highlanders Fall at Winthrop

Rock Hill, S.C. -- Radford’s men’s and women's tennis teams fell at Winthrop this afternoon. The men fell 6-1 and fall to 4-2, 0-2 in the Big South, while the women dropped their match, 7-0 and fall to 0-8, 0-3 in the Conference.

On the men's side, the Eagle swept the doubles and earned points in five of the six singles matches. Senior Joakim Arhammar (Sollentuna, Sweden) picked up the lone point for RU with a win at No. 4 over Jorge Padilla.

In the women's match, Winthrop swept the singles and earned the doubles point, taking two of the three matches. For the Highlanders, the No. 2 doubles team of Caroline Downs (Radford, Va.) and Camila Noldin (Florianopolis, Brazil) win their match, 8-5.

Both teams next matches will be during Spring Break week. The men head to California for five matches next week. They will open up on March 12 at UC Santa Cruz at 2 pm PST. The women are headed to Orlando, Fla. for two matches, beginning on March 14 vs. Stephen F. Austin.
