Highs Complete Weekend Sweep with Blanking of Coastal Conway, S.C. -- Radford made a clean sweep this weekend, blanking Coastal Carolina, 7-0 and improving to 2-0 in the Big South and 2-3 overall. Radford took two of three in the doubles and swept all six singles matches. The No. 1 team of sophomore Brandon Johnson (Roanoke, Va.) and Dominic Soeur (Herndon, Va.) bounced back from Saturday's loss to defeat Adam Adler and Richard Redding, 8-4. The Highs picked up the point when the No. 3 team of juniors Joakim Arhammar (Sollentuna, Swenden) and Robel Mengisteab (Kista, Sweden) cruised past Simon Taylor and Brian Davis, 8-2. In singles competition, five of the six matches went three sets. The only straight-set victory came at No. 3 with sophomore Andre' Cavaco (Faro, Portugal) defeating Adler, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 1, Johnson defeated Florentin Meynie, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Sophomore Arthur Vasarevic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Mengisteab rebounded from first set losses to win the No. 2 and 5 matches. Arhammar and Soeur picked up the final to singles wins. Arhammar won 6-2, 6-7, 6-0 at No. 4 and Soueur won the No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2. For the weekend, all six Highlanders finished 3-1 overall. Arhammar and Mengisteab were 2-0 in doubles, while Johnson, Vasarevic, Cavaco and Soeur were 2-0 in singles play. The Highlanders will continue on the road next weekend when they travel to James Madison on March 6 and American on March 7.
