Men’s Tennis Begins 2003 Season 2-1 at the VCU Invitational RICHMOND, Va. -- Radford University’s Men’s Tennis team posted a 2-1 record at the annual Virginia Commonwealth 4-1 Men’s Tennis Invitational at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. On Friday, the Highlanders fell to Richmond 3-1, but rebounded with a 3-2 win over Georgetown in the evening match. They followed that with another 3-2 victory, this time over Navy on Saturday morning. In their match against Richmond, Brandon Johnson (Roanoke, Va.) picked up the lone victory, defeating Dan Scrafford, 6-2, 6-4. In their second match, Radford took the #2, #3, and #4 singles to pull out a 3-2 win. Johnson defeated Eric Bildman, 6-1, 6-2 in the #2 singles. Andre’ Cavaco (Faro, Portugal) defeated Chris Beleleiu, 6-3, 6-2 and Joakim Arhammar (Sollentuna, Sweden) defeated Chris Kindler 6-1, 6-3 in the third and fourth singles matches respectively. On Saturday against Navy, the doubles team of Robel Mengisteab (Kista, Sweden) and Dominic Soeur (Herndon, Va.) picked up their first win of the invitational, defeating Matt Walton and Daniel Huynh 6-4, 7-6 (5). The Highlanders pulled out the win, when Cavaco and Arhammar won their #3 and #4 singles matches.
