Colas and Zinoveev Garner Post-Season Awards RADFORD, Va. -- Radford University men’s soccer players Patrick Colas and Omar Zinoveev have both earned postseason honors following the 2004 season. Colas was named CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American in the University Division, while Zinoveev was named First Team All-South Atlantic Region by the national soccer coaches’ Association. A native of Rennes, France, Colas is a 4.0 GPA Economics major. The junior is coming off a solid season, leading RU with 14 points. He also tallied two assists and was named Second Team All-Conference this year by the Big South. Colas also received the 2004 Men’s Soccer Big South Scholar-Athlete award. In 2003, after joining Radford as a sophomore, Colas played in all 18 games and led Radford with 24 points. He was named Second Team All-Conference honors for his play on the field. Colas becomes the ninth student-athlete in RU history to earn Academic All-America Honors. Zinoveev, a junior from Young Uruguay, was spectacular in goal, notching three shutouts and starting every game but one for the Highlanders. He led the Big South in save percentage .802, saves 89 and saves per game with 5.56. Zinoveev also ranked second in the Big South in goals against average, posting a 1.36 GAA allowing only 22 goals on 194 shots. "We are happy for both Patrick and Omar,” said Radford coach Spencer Smith. “Both players are excellent student-athletes who are two of our primary contributors and team leaders. It’s nice to see them both receive recognition for their hard work, both on the field and in the classroom." The men’s soccer team finished 2004 7-6-4 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play. |
