Men's Soccer Falls to Birmingham-Southern, 4-2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Jamie Holmes scored a pair of goals and Floreal Pedrazo added a goal and an assist as Birmingham-Southern earned a 4-2 win over Radford in men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon at the BSC Soccer Park. (Box Score) It was the second straight victory for the Panthers, who improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big South. Radford fell to 2-3-3, 0-2-1. BSC struck early as Pedrazo was fouled in the penalty area and converted on his penalty kick for a 1-0 lead just two minutes and five seconds into the match. The score remained until Pedrazo and Holmes hooked up for a score in the 39th minute. Pedrazo fed Holmes, who drilled a shot into the left corner of the net from 25 yards away for a 2-0 lead. BSC made it 3-0 as Martin Zaluk headed in his second goal of the season off a corner kick from Gino Cozzolino in the 53rd minute. Holmes struck again in the 64th minute, this time the recipient of a cross from Karim Dietz. Holmes, who made a run to the far post arrived in time to volley a shot past Radford keeper Omar Zinoveev for a 4-0 advantage. Holmes now has a team-leading 10 goals on the season. Joseph Sansbury helped the Highlanders avoid the shutout with two late goals in the 77th and 89th minutes. BSC out-shot Radford 19-7, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Holmes led both teams with five shots, four of them on frame. Panther keeper Joseph Anthony stopped one RU shot. Zinoveev made three saves for RU before giving way to Dan Stevens for the final 25 minutes. BSC returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Nashville to take on Lipscomb at 7 p.m. |
