Highlanders Eliminated From Big South Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Bobby Dabbs goal in the 72nd minute lifted fourth-seeded Liberty to a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Radford in Game Three of the Big South Men’s Soccer Championship this evening from BSC soccer complex. (Box Score)

Dabbs scored the game-winner, one-timing a short cross from Adrian Bumbut, to the right of a diving Omar Zinoveev.

After no scoring in the first 40 minutes of the first half, Radford and Liberty traded goals in a 1:25 span. Jon Smith put the Highlanders up 1-0 as he turned and fired a low shot from 20 yards out inside the left post at 40:14.

Big South Freshman of the Year Kyle Cupid knotted the match at one, when he curled in a direct kick just inside the right post from 20 yards at 41:39. The Flames had a pair quality scoring chances earlier in the period, but one hit the crossbar and the other caromed off the left post. Zinoveev finished the match with four saves, while Liberty keeper K.J. Sabotchick posted three saves.

Liberty (9-9-2, 4-3 Big South) moves on to play the winner of the nightcap match between top seed Birmingham-Southern and eighth-seeded High Point. The semifinal will begin at 5:30 pm CT. Radford concludes the season with an overall mark of 7-6-4 and 3-3-1 in the League.
