Colas, Highlanders Edge High Point

RADFORD, Va.--Junior Patrick Colas scored early in the second period to lift Radford to its second straight Big South Conference victory, a 1-0 Homecoming win over High Point Saturday night at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. (Box Score)

Junior Andres Hernandez lobbed a serve over the head of the HPU defenders, allowing Colas to break free. Colas beat High Point goalkeeper senior Chris Michner in a one-on-one situation and blasted in the game-winner, his fifth tally of the season.

The win is the third in the last four games for RU, which improved its record to 4-3-3 overall and 2-2-1 in Big South play. High Point remained winless in League play at 0-4. The Panthers are 5-7 in all games.

High Point had several chances to tie the score, including a blast midway through the second half from freshman Josh Windley, but RU keeper junior Omar Zinoveev, who stopped six Panther shots total, made a spectacular diving save to keep HPU off the board. Windley had four shots to lead the High Point offense.

Michner made three saves on 12 Radford shots. The Panthers also recorded 12 shots, with Zinoveev stopping six and the RU defense also tallying a stop. The Highlanders took five corner kicks while High Point had two.

Radford will conclude its three-game Big South Conference homestand Wednesday when it hosts Winthrop at 7:00 pm. High Point will travel the short distance to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech on Tuesday at 7:00 pm
