Colas Tabbed Big South Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Radford's men's soccer forward Patrick Colas took home top academic honors, garnering the 2004 Me's Soccer Scholar-Athlete award the Big South announced Wednesday.

Junior goalkeeper Omar Zinoveev was named the First Team All-Conference goalkeeper while Colas was named Second Team All-Conference. Freshman David Stannard was named to the All-Freshman team. Stannard hit two game winning goals on free kicks this season.

Colas was also named Academic All-Conference. The Economics major led the Highlanders with six goals, three of which were game-winners, and 14 points.

Zinoveev posted a 6-4-4 record with a 1.27 goals against average and 85 saves. Zinoveev has the best save percentage .810, and saves per game 5.67 in the Big South.

The awards banquet serves as the kickoff for the 2004 Men’s Soccer Championship. The first round begins Thursday in Birmingham, Ala., with four games scheduled throughout the day at BSC Soccer Park. The semifinals will be played Friday beginning at 3:00 pm CT, while the title match is slated for Sunday at 2:00 pm CT.

The Highlanders finished the season with an overall record of 7-5-4 and 3-3-1 in the Big South. Radford will match up against fourth seeded Liberty in the 5:00 pm match.
