Radford Men's Golf Opens Spring Season With Eighth-Place Finish CHARLESTON, S.C.-- Radford men’s golf opened the spring part of its schedule with an eight-place finish a the CSU Spring Kickoff Tournament, which concluded today at Coosaw Creek Country Club. The Highlanders shot a 905 (298-297-310) in the three day event to edge out in-state rival Virginia Commonweath. (Complete Results) Senior Aaron Summers (Floyd, Va.) was RU’s top finisher, shooting a 217 (71-71-75) to finish in seventh place. Summers was just two strokes off the lead after the first round, and four shots behind the leader after 36 holes. Campbell’s Fredrik Sundberg took home medalist honors with a 207. Sophomore Josh Meador (Glen Allen, Va.) placed second for Radford, posting a 227 (75-78-74) that gave him a tie for 31st overall. Junior Chris Bagg (Christiansburg, Va.) finished third for the Highlanders, firing a 231 (76-76-79), placing him in a tie for 39th overall. Sophomore Robert Nuon (Centreville, Va.) finished tied for 45th, at 232 (76-72-84), one stroke behind Bagg. Freshman Hampton Ballard (Pearisburg, Va.) rounded out the RU finishers with a 246 (82-82-82). He placed 78th overall. Host Charleston Southern won the event with an 865. Other Big South schools involved were High Point, which finished in fifth with a 900, and Liberty, which placed tied for 11th with a 913. The RU men’s golf team returns to action March 14 at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. |
