Radford Men’s Basketball Signs Bynum to Letter of Intent

RADFORD, VA. - Radford University men’s basketball coach Byron Samuels announced today that he has signed Andre Bynum to a National Letter of Intent.

Bynum a 6-2, 180 point guard comes to Radford after spending the last season at Fork Union Military Academy. While at the Fork Union, Va. school, Bynum averaged six points and three assists for a program that sent seven players to Division I programs and finished 24-6 overall in the Virginia Independent School (VIS) league.

“Were excited about Andre. He adds another true classic point guard to the program. He is a quality young man, excellent student and basketball player. He will be counted on immediately, along with Whit Holcomb-Faye to provide leadership at the point guard position”, said Coach Samuels. “I am very confident in both, and feel fortunate to have them in the Radford basketball family.”

A native of Gastonia, N.C., Bynum played his High School basketball at Ashbrook High School for Marty Hatchell. The 2001 Conference Player-of-the-Year, Bynum averaged eight points per game for the Green Wave as a senior, while helping lead Ashbrook to 21-4 overall record and 11-1 league record.

An established quarterback for AHS, Bynum was runner-up for the Gastonia Gazette offensive player of the year honors, throwing for and area high 1,414 yards and 15 touchdowns, while completing 60.4 percent of his passes and only committing four interceptions.

Bynum joins 6-1, 175 pound point guard Whit Holcomb-Faye (Winston-Salem, N.C./ R.J. Reynolds HS), 6-6, 240 pound forward Chris Prince (Oxon Hill, Md. /Oxon Hill HS), who RU inked during the early signing period and Chris Goodin, a 6-5, 215 swingman, who averaged 27.3 points per game at Lee High School in Herndon, Va.
