Hampton Upends Highlanders HAMPTON, Va. --Hampton had two players score over 20 points to defeat Radford men’s basketball 89-74 Wednesday night in non-Conference action in the Salem Civic Center. (Box Score) Hampton senior Devin Green (Columbus, Ohio) led all scorers with 28 points while junior Bruce Brown Richmond, Va.) recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Green also had three assists and four steals. Freshman Rashad West (Raleigh, N.C.) had 14 points for the Pirates and Freshman Adrian Woodard (Samford, N.C.) finished with 13. Radford (4-3) junior Whit Holcomb-Faye (Winston-Salem, N.C.), who tallied 11 points on the night, became the 18th player in RU men’s basketball history to break the 1,000-point mark for his career. He also dished out four assists. Hampton (3-4) went on a 10-2 run midway through the first half to establish a seven-point cushion on a trey by Green. The Highlanders closed the gap and took the lead on a free throw shot by Junior Chris Goodin (Springfield, N.C.), but another run, this one 11-2 by the Pirates gave Hampton another eight-point lead. The Pirates pushed the lead as high as 10 before a late jumper by Holcomb-Faye cut the Hampton lead to eight at the half. The closest the Highlanders would get in the second half would be seven on a layup by junior Ivan Wilson (Baltimore, Md.) The Highlanders placed four players in double figures, paced by sophomore Reggie McIntyre’s (Piedmont, S.C.) career-high 17 points. Senior Olumuyiwa Popoola, (Gardena, Calif.) who had been scoreless in the previous two games, joined Holcomb-Faye will 11. Goodin had a season-high 10 points. Wilson led the Highs on the boards with six. Radford will face Lees-McRae, Friday at 7:00 pm at the Dedmon Center. Hampton will play at MEAC rival Norfolk State Sunday at 6:00 pm. |
