Holcomb-Faye Nets 37 In Win Over Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C -Whit Holcomb-Faye scored a career-high 37 points, including the game-winning lay-up with a little over three seconds remaining to give Radford Men's Basketball a 66-65 win over Howard at Burr Gymnasium Saturday night.

After Howard's Louis Ford converted on a three-point play with nine seconds remaining, Holcomb-Faye dribbled the length of the court and scored to put the Highlanders up one with 3.5 seconds remaining. Ford tried a buzzer-beater, but the basket which rimed out anyway, was waved off by the officials.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Radford, who improved to 4-3. Holcomb-Faye, who scored 25 points in the second half and had 12 of the Highlanders' final 14 points, also dished out three assists and had three steals. Aaron Gill had a game-high 11 rebounds for RU. He also had three steals.

The Bison (2-3) led for most of the game and were up 35-29 at halftime. RU closed the gap in the second half however, and took its first lead at 48-47 on a three-point play by Holcomb-Faye. The two teams traded baskets from there until the final series.

Ford led Howard with a career-best 21 points. Darryl Hudson also had 12 points for the Bison. Radford held James Wilkinson, Howard's leading scorer this season, to eight points on the night.

The game was the fourth for the Highlanders in seven days. They will get a week off before their next game, an away contest at New River Valley rival Virginia Tech. The game will tip off Saturday at 7:00 pm at Cassell Coliseum.
