RADFORD, Va. -- Radford University Mens Basketball Coach Byron Samuels announced today that Jeff Brookman has been hired as an assistant coach.
Brookman, a native of Charlotte, N.C., comes to Radford University after spending the 2001-02 season as an assistant coach under Samuels former Hampton University assistant, Dip Metress, at NCAA Division II member Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C.
Im very excited about Jeff Brookman. He worked for my very best friend in the coaching profession, Dip Metress, at Belmont Abbey College and was instrumental in their 25-6 season and run at the Division II National Title. Having assisted Coach Metress who worked for me, Jeff fully understands my expectations in terms of work, player development and image. Not only does he have the experience of being a former point guard, he has experience playing and coaching in Europe. When the opening occurred, there was no doubt Jeff was the guy I wanted. He is very bright, energetic and analyzes situations very well.
Prior to his stint at Belmont Abbey, Brookman served as a player-coach for Sarnan (1998-2000) and Luzern (2000-01) in the Switzerland Professional League. He played the 2001 season for Virginaello of the Switzerland Professional League before joining the Belmont Abbey staff.
Brookman, a 1998 graduate of Belmont Abbey, capped off a stellar four-year career for the Crusaders with Carolina-Virginia Athletic Conference honorable mention all-conference honors in 1998. He finished his career 12th on BACs all-time scoring list, and second in career three pointers, with 266. Garnering team MVP honors in each of his final two seasons for the Crusaders, Brookman was the 1994-95 CVAC Freshman-of-the-Year.
