Men's Basketball Continues Dominance over Coastal, Runs Current Winning Streak to 12 Games over Chanticleers with 65-58 Victory RADFORD, Va. Radford University stretched their winning streak over Coastal Carolina to 11 games, with a 65-58 victory Saturday night in Big South Conference Basketball action at the Dedmon Center. (Box Score) The Highlanders (6-17, 4-7), playing with seven players, have won 20 of the last 21 meetings between the two institutions, stopped their losing streak at five games and kept CCU Head Coach Pete Strickland winless against the Highlanders in 11career tries. Leading the way for the Highlanders for the fifth straight game was Whit Holcomb-Faye with 17 points. Kyle Zaharias tallied his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Gill led RU on the glass with 12 boards. Matt James grabbed a career best 10 rebounds to help stop Coastal’s three game winning streak. For Coastal Carolina (12-11, 4-6), Tony Darden collected a game high 18 points and 17 rebounds. Clint Reed came off the bench to add 14. RU gave 2000-01 Big South Conference Player-of-the-Year Torrey Butler fits all evening, holding the senior to seven points on three-of-11 from the field. RU used a strong first half to take their first lead in 23 games into the break, 30-21. In that first stanza, the Highlanders, trailing 12-11 with 11:31 left until intermission, put together a 9-0 run to break open the game. RU would push that advantage to 10 points, 28-18 with 2:58 left. In the second half it was more of the Highlanders as they built on their halftime advantage, pushing their lead to as much as 19 points (45-26) at the 10:56 mark, their largest lead of the year. RU will play their third game in five days Monday, as they host Charleston Southern at 7 p.m. |
