Troy Manns, Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Troy Manns joined Byron Samuels on Radford’s coaching staff on June 5, 2002. A former Virginia Tech standout, Manns' duties include scouting opponents, recruiting coordination and overseeing player development. Manns came to RU after spending two seasons as an assistant at his alma mater, Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Va. Manns worked under Jack Esworthy with the overall development of the program. Prior to his stint at PHHS, Manns served as an assistant at Highland Springs High School in Richmond under George Lancaster. As a player at Virginia Tech, Manns was a member of the 1996 team, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, only to be beaten by eventual national champion Kentucky. That team amassed more wins than any other team in Virginia Tech history. In 1997 he led the Atlantic 10 in assist to turnover ratio at a 3 to 1 clip. He also led his team in assists, free throw percentage, minutes played and was voted the team’s most improved player. Manns began his collegiate playing career at George Mason University and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Rookie team after a successful freshman campaign. In just two years, Manns ranked seventh all-time in assists for the Patriots and also set the GMU single-game assist record of 12. Manns holds a master's degree in Secondary Education and a bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia Tech. He and his wife, the former Laurie McLendon, currently reside in Roanoke where they are the proud parents of a newborn son, Yuri Davone. |
