Jeff Brookman, Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Brookman was selected by Byron Samuels on June 8, 2002 as assistant men’s basketball coach. In his current capacity, he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program and serves as a liaison for film exchange. Brookman additionally assists in recruiting and coordinating practice, player development and scounting. Brookman, a native of Charlotte, N.C., came to Radford after spending the 2001-2002 season as an assistant coach under Samuels’ former Hampton University assistant, Dip Metress, at his alma mater, Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. He helped lead the Crusaders to a 25-6 overall record, helping guide them to a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference tournament title and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. While at Belont Abbey, Brookman also picked up the first victory as a head coach, filling in on an interim basis for one game, in which the Crusaders defeated Longwood to give Brookman a perfect 1-0 record as a head coach. Prior to his stint at Belmont Abbey, Brookman served as a player-coach for Sarnan (1998-2000) and Luzern (2000-2001) in the Switzerland Professional League. He played the 2001 season for Virginaello of the Switzerland Professional League before joining the Belmont Abbey staff. He joined the European teams after capping off a stellar four-year career for the Crusaders, garnering CVAC Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in 1998. He finished his career ranked 12th on Belmont Abbey’s all-time scoring list, and second in career three pointers, with 266. Garnering team MVP honors in each of his final two seasons for the Crusaders, Brookman was the 1994-95 CVAC Freshman of the Year. He scored a total of 1,443 points at Belmont Abbey to rank 12th on the school’s all-time scoring list. For his career he averaged 14 points per game and shot 40 percent from three-point range. Brookman was also a member of the Crusaders’ soccer team in 1997. He led the team and ranked in the top three in the CVAC in points scores. He was named to the CVAC All-Conference team and was named team MVP. Brookman was also a standout player in high school, averaging 19 points and six assists as a senior in 1993 at Charlotte Catholic High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management in 1998 from Belmont Abbey. He currently resides in Christiansburg, Va. |
