Highlanders Head to NorPac Tournament with RADFORD, Va. - Coming off a 3-0 week, Radford University's field hockey team heads to the NorPac Tournament in Davidson, N.C. as the No. 1 seed out of the East Division. The Highlanders, who posted a perfect 6-0 record in the division and a 9-9 overall record will face the No. 4 seed out of the west Stanford at 4 p.m. on Nov. 4. Offensively, the Highlanders are led by junior Hope Bates (Haddam, Conn.) and sophomore Meredith Evans (Virginia Beach, Va.). Bates has tallied a team and career best eight goals and 18 points this season. The two-time NorPac Offensive Player of the Week scored both goals in the division clinching, 2-1 victory over Saint Louis on Oct. 26 and assisted on the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Davidson to complete a perfect 6-0 in the East. Evans has recorded four goals and a team high four assists with three game-winning goals this season, including one in overtime against Appalachian State. In goal, Amy Dietz has seen most of the action in the cage this season. A two-time defensive player of the week, Dietz has posted a 2.89 GAA with 94 saves in 1113:48. In six NorPac matches, she has recorded a 0.49 GAA with 14 saves and four shutouts. As a team, the Highs have made eight defensive saves led by senior midfielder Angela Feindt (Hartwood, Va.) with four. The defense in Conference matches has been stellar, allowing just three goals and 43 shots. Another key to their undefeated division run has been the corner defense which has given up just one goal on 42 short corner attempts. Should the Highlanders win on Thursday, they would face the winner of the Pacific (No. 2 West) vs. Appalachian State (No. 3 East) in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Friday. If they lose, they would play in the consolation bracket at 6:30 p.m. against the loser of that match. |
