Boston College Shuts Out Highlanders

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Lock Haven scored five second half goals as they blanked Radford, 5-0 this afternoon at the Boston College Invite from Bentley College’s turf field. The Highlanders suffered the second straight defeat and fell to 1-2, while Lock Haven remained undefeated at 4-0.

Neither team generated much offense in the first half as the two teams combined for just four shots and six penalty corners. In the second half, The Haven started to pressure the Highlanders and finally with 22:15 to go and a man down, Rebecca Steffen found the back of cage for a 1-0 lead. Just 38 seconds later after a RU timeout, LHU’s Samantha Stoyer off a feed from Nikki Sweger, made it 2-0.

Lock Haven netted three more goals to make the final margin, 5-0. Steffen notched a pair, while Sweger added a goal and two assists. Junior Amy Dietz (Louisville, Ky.), stopped four shots for RU, while LHU’s Melissa Stubblefield earned the shutout making one save.

RU was out shot 14-2, 12-0 in the second half with Lock Haven generated 13 penalty corners, 12 in the second half, to just five for the Highlanders.

Radford hit the road for their next contest on Sept. 10 when they face Virginia Commonwealth at 7 pm.
