Highlanders Blank Davidson, 2-0, on Senior Day Radford, Va. -- Radford (9-9, 6-0 NorPac) scored a goal in each half and received a strong defensive effort holding Davidson (5-11, 1-5 NorPac) to four shots as earned a 2-0 victory on senior day from Dedmon Center field. With the win, the Highlanders completed NorPac Conference play at 6-0, the first time a RU field hockey team has ever gone undefeated in any Conference season. Radford, who dominated the play much of the day, opened the scoring in the 27th minutes. Sophomore Lauren Hebert (Hampton, Va.) scored her first collegiate goal as she redirected a shot by junior Hope Bates (Haddam, Conn.). The play was set up by a long hit by sophomore Tiffany Church (Virginia Beach, Va.) right to Bates. After surviving a Davidson corner which generated two scoring chances that were stopped by RU keeper Amy Dietz (Louisville, Ky.), the Highl The Highlanders out shot Davidson 17-4, while penalty corners were even at seven. Wildcat keeper Sarah Nolan had a solid game in goal, making 11 saves, including seven in the second half. Dietz finished the match with three saves as she earned her fourth shutout of the season. Radford and Davidson head to the NorPac Tournament from Nov. 4-6 hosted by the Wildcats in Davidson, N.C. The Highlanders, the No. 1 seed in the east, will play No. 4 seed Stanford out of the west at 4:00 p.m. The Wildcats, the #4 seed in the east, will face the west’s No. 1 seed California at 1:30 pm. Prior to the match, Radford honored its three seniors, Feindt, Marie Petran (Norfolk, Va.) and Jenny Bell (Virginia Beach, Va.) as they played in their final home match in a Highlander uniform. |
