Highlanders Fall to Albany 5-3 Davidson, N.C. - Radford dropped a 5-3 decision to Albany in field hockey action from Davidson College. The Highlanders dropped their fifth consecutive game, falling to 3-7. In a wild first half, Albany scored a pair of goals in the first seven minutes. Tina Bryson scored off an assist from Christina Maze five minutes into the match. Just two minutes later, Bryson found Maze to put the up 2-0. Freshman Meredith Evans (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) cut the lead to 2-1 23-minute mark, scoring off a feed from Erin Lenhardt (Hayes, Va./Gloucester). The Great Danes regained their two-goal advantage when Danielle Costello put one into the back of the cage off a pass from Shelly Gebhardt with 4:35 left. Radford cut the lead to one again when Jenny Bell (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) scored 1:38 after Costello's goal. Lauren Hebert (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) picked up the assist. In the second half, Lisa Burline gave Albany a three-goal cushion scoring a pair of goals off penalty corners in the 51st and 56th minute. Kiera Gambeski (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) closed out the scoring with her first goal of her collegiate career off of Lenhardt's second assist of the day. The Great Danes outshot the Highlanders 28-12, while the Highs outcornered them 9-8. Tina Caiazza (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) made 12 saves in 55:04, while Amy Dietz (Louisville, Ky./Male) came in a made four in the final 14:56. Marisa Maze made five saves for Albany. The Highlanders head to Charlottesville on Wednesday to face the Virginia Cavliers at 7 p.m. |
