Highlanders' Defense Stands Tall in 1-0 Win Over Mountaineers

Boone, N.C. - Radford’s defense stood tall, limiting Appalachian State to only three shots and one penalty corner as the Highlanders downed the Mountaineers, 1-0 in NorPac field hockey action from an extremely foggy Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Radford (4-7, 3-1 NorPac) came out strong as it controlled the Appalachian (3-9, 0-3 NorPac) offense in the first half, limiting the Mountaineers to only one shot. The Highlanders got all they needed at the 14:59 mark as junior Erin Lenhardt (Hayes, Va.) lifted a shot over Mountaineer goalkeeper Amy Sarno after receiving a pass from senior Megan Driest (Fredericksburg, Va.). It was Lenhardt's conference leading eighth goal and her third against the Mountaineers this season.

The second half was much of the same as RU allowed only two shots. For the game, the Highlanders posted eight shots and earned nine penalty corners.

Tina Caiazza (Fairfax, Va.) picked up the shutout win, her third of the season, without making a save. Sarno recorded four saves for ASU.

The Highlanders travel to Durham, N.C. on Saturday, October 13 to take on Villanova at 2 p.m.
