Hebert’s Goal Lifts Highlanders to East Division Title

Radford, Va. – Junior Erin Hebert’s (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) first half goal held up as Radford University defeated Davidson, 1-0 to claim the NorPac Conference’s East Division Crown in field hockey action from Dedmon Center Field. The Highlanders improve to 6-8 overall and finish conference play with a 4-1 record, one game ahead of Southwest Missouri State. The Wildcats fall to 6-11 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

With Radford controlling the tempo early on, the Highlanders would finally capitalize when Hebert made a few moves and dribbled into the circle and rifled a shot past Davidson keeper Sarah Nolan at 12:07 for the eventual game-winning goal. Nolan would keep the Wildcats alive, making six first half saves and seven overall.

The Wildcats would step up the pressure, earning three consecutive penalty corners at about the 20-minute mark, but the Highlander defense stood tall not allowing a single shot. RU would go into halftime outshooting the Wildcats 8-2.

In the second half, Davidson would continue their momentum but were unable to get any scoring opportunities until they receive a corner with seven minutes left. Radford’s Tina Caiazza (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) would come up big making a pair of saves on consecutive shots. She would finish with four for the game.

The Highlanders outshot the Wildcats, 9-5 and had the advantage in corners 9-6.
