Highlanders Blanked By Davidson in Season Opener

Davidson, N.C. - Radford was shutout, 1-0, in their season and conference opener, as Davidson's Jane-Garnet Ishon scored her first collegiate goal to send the Highlanders to defeat in field hockey action.

Ishon scored at the 20:32 mark of the first half on a pass from Amanda Strickland.

The weather conditions were a major factor in the game. Periods of heavy rainfall fell throughout the game resulting in slippery grass. Both teams played on without letting the miserable playing conditions get to them.

On both ends of the field, defense held strong. The Highlander defense held Davidson to only four shots, but Wildcat keeper Sarah Nolan held RU scoreless by stopping all 11 shots by the Highlanders. Junior Tina Caizza netted two saves for Radford.

The Highlanders will return to action tommorrow, when they travel to Salisbury, S.C. and face the Catwba Indians at 1:00 p.m.
