Last Second Heroics Sink Radford Field Hockey

COLLEGEVILLE, PA (October 1, 2001) - Ursinus' Jess Shellaway took a backhand feed from Julie Lowell and netted the game-winner with four seconds remaining to lift the Bears (3-8) to a 3-2 win over Radford (3-7) in non-conference field hockey action at Evans Field. (box score)

After a scoreless first half, Ursinus opened the scoring when Sandy Fetterman scored an unassisted goal with14:10 left in the game. Radford's Sarah Meriwether (Fairfax, Va.) answered with an unassisted goal, her first of the year, just three minutes later.

Tara Lucas scored on a pass from Lowell to put the Bears ahead 2-1 at the 8:31 mark. But, once again, the Highlanders struck back as senior Tessa Brookes (Haddam, Conn.) found the back of the net with 5:23 remaining in the game.

Ursinus outshot Radford 18-9 and held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners. Bear goalkeeper Nicole Monatesti registered six saves, while the Highlanders got 10 saves from Brooke Peterson (Shamong, N.J.).

Up next for the Highlanders is a two-game conference set at Southwest Missouri State on Sept. 4 and 6. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
