Prior to joining the RU program, Brittle served two years as an assistant on the staff of legendary Virginia Tech skipper Chuck Hartman. Brittle helped direct Tech to back-to-back Atlantic 10 titles and NCAA Regional berths. A 1998 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Forestry, Brittle played for the Hokies for two seasons, 1997 and 1998. His junior season, he helped lead Tech to the NCAA Regionals in Tusculoosa, Ala.
