Radford Rallies To Split Doubleheader ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Radford baseball rallied in game two, overcoming a nine-run deficit en route to splitting a Big South doubleheader at UNC Asheville Sunday afternoon. RU won game two 13-10 after dropping the first game 6-4 at Greenwood Field. UNCA (11-28, 3-15 Big South) scored five runs in the first inning of game one. Tony Wall laid down a successful squeeze bunt to score Campana with the game’s first run. Arrington followed with a RBI single to score Josh Coyle. After a walk to Justin Wilkins, Mattison tripled to score Arrington and Wilkins and then scored on a wild pitch to give starter Ben Buchanan all the run support he would need. The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth. John Whited walked to lead off and would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Ben Kerr to make it 6-0. Radford (11-27, 6-9 Big South) scored two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Ross and Ashworth had RBI singles in the fifth and Matt Mantione had a sacrifice fly in the sixth after an error allowed the third run to score. Buchanan pitched 7.1 innings giving up four runs on nine hits to improve to 3-3 on the season. Chris Nigro came on in the eighth and pitched the last 1.2 retiring all five batters he faced for his first save of the season. Fleisher took the loss to fall to 3-6. Asheville will travel to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. game while |
