Monarchs Take Game Two From RU NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion baseball team defeated Radford 13-9 Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex to improve to 2-0 for the young season. Radford falls to 0-2. (Box Score) Short stop Jesse Schoendienst and Leftfielder Evan Chipman both hit triples during the contest, in a game that had no homeruns. For the game, Schoendienst hit 1-of-2 for the game, and knocked in an RBI. Chipman hit 2-of-6, scoring two runs and hitting in two RBI's. Radford took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of play, but the Monarchs also scored a first-inning run to tie the game at 1-1. ODU scored three in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead and scored another three in the fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead. After adding another run in the fifth inning to take a 8-1 lead, Radford and ODU exchanged two runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning to give ODU the 13-5 lead. Radford scored an unanswered run in the eight inning and two runs in the top of the ninth to cut the lead to 13-9, but ODU held on for the victory. Junior Aaron Ranft (Cary, N.C.) and sophomore Steve Mignogna (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) each were 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Radford. Bryan Hansen took the victory for ODU, pitching 5.2 innings, striking out six batters and allowing only two earned runs. Justin Morgan (0-1) got the start and took the loss for the Highlanders. ODU and Radford will play the third game of the series Sunday at 1:00 at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. |
