Radford’s Fleisher Drafted In 14th Round By Orioles

RADFORD, Va. -- Radford standout first baseman Mark Fleisher was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.

Fleisher, who graduated this spring, was chosen on the first day of the two-day draft with the 423 pick overall. The Glen Allen, Va. native, who was also a starting pitcher for the Highlanders, was selected as a first baseman.

Fleisher finished his RU career as one of Radford’s most prolific hitters. He tied team home run and hitting streak records last season. This year he finished his career just two home runs shy of the Highlander career mark of 38 while batting a whopping .375 to rank second in the Big South Conference.

He will attempt to join Phil Leftwich (California Angels) and Ryan Speier (Colorado Rockies) as a former RU player who has played in the majors. Fleisher was among eight Big South Conference players drafted on day one.
