Wohlford Named To Big South Conference All-Tournament Team CONWAY, S.C. -- Radford senior Kellen Wohlford was named to the 2005 Big South Conference All-Tournament Team the League announced Saturday evening, following the conclusion of the 2005 Bojangles Big South Baseball Tournament. The Pulaski, Va. native batted .692 in RU’s three tournament games, posting a 9-for-13 performance at the plate. He had one home run, four RBI and scored three runs. Wohlford’s efforts lead the Highlanders to their first tournament win since 1993 and the first-ever tournament win for head coach Lew Kent. Wohlford, who played both at first base and in left field for the Highlanders during the tournament, was selected as an All-Tournament outfielder. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team outfield by and Liberty’s P.K. Keller and Winthrop’s Daniel Carte, who earned Tournament MVP honors after leading Winthrop to the Big South title. In addition, infielders Mike Costanzo (Coastal Carolina), Chris Carrara (Winthrop), Coastal’s Aaron Verrett and CCU’s Michael DeJesus were named to the All-Tournament Team. Winthrop catcher Alan Robbins, Eagles slugger Jacob Dempsey (utility position), Liberty designated hitter Jeff Brown, and pitchers Mike Valter (CCU), Heath Rollins (WU), Ricky Shefka (CCU) and Ryan Page (Liberty) rounded out the All-Tournament team. Rollins, Shefka and Page tied for the second pitcher’s spot. Radford, the sixth seed dropped its first game to top-seeded Coastal Carolina, 9-1. RU responded with an 8-7 win over VMI before falling to Liberty 10-4 Friday morning. RU finished the season 15-40 overall. |
