Radford Claims Fourth Seed, Prepares For Chants

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Radford will be the fourth seed and will face third-seeded Coastal Carolina in the first round of the 2004 Big South Baseball Championship. The Highlanders and Chanticleers will tangle in game two of the double-elimination tournament. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm Wednesday.

RU finished the regular season with a Confernece mark of 14-10, good for sole possession of fourth place. Coastal Carolina finished tied for second with Winthrop at 16-8, but the Eagle held the tiebreaker.

Birmingham-Southern earned the top seed for the 2004 Championship, which begins Wednesday and continues through Saturday at The Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C. The Big South Conference announced the complete pairings Sunday following the conclusion of the regular season.

Birmingham-Southern claimed the top seed with a Conference record of 21-3. The Panthers will face sixth-seeded Charleston Southern on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the first round. The Buccaneers finished with a Conference mark of 11-13. Winthrop, the host, will square off against fifth-seeded UNC Asheville at 8 p.m. in the first round. The Bulldogs finished with a 13-11 League record.

The winner of the Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Regionals. The championship games of the 2004 Big South Baseball Championship will be played Saturday, May 29.
