Fleisher Homers Again To Lead RU's Sweep

LEXINGTON, Va.--Radford University first baseman Mark Fleisher homered for the fifth time in three games against VMI as the Highlanders knocked off the Keydets 9-4 and took a three game series sweep Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field. (Box Score)

Radford (13-14, 7-2 Big South) extends its first place lead to two games over Birmingham-Southern in the Big South. VMI (18-15, 0-6 Big South) remains winless in League play.

RBI’s singles from B.T. Good, Matt Smith and Elliott Erbe put the Keydets up 3-1 after three innings.

But Fleisher’s two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning and an RBI triple from Alan Ashworth followed by a run scoring ground out in the fifth put the Highlanders on top for good 5-3.

Radford added three more runs in the seventh, including an RBI single from Fleisher.

In the three games against VMI, Fleisher went 6-for-14 with five home runs, six runs scored and 13 RBI’s.

Ashworth went 3-for-3 with three RBI’s in Sunday’s game, and shortstop Stuart Ritchie added three singles and a triple.

The Highlanders’ Justin Morgan (2-2) allowed two earned runs in five innings to earn the win, while VMI starter Jimmy Thoms (2-3) took the loss.

Radford will host Davidson on Tuesday at Dedmon Center Park at 3:00 pm.
