Fleisher Garners Third Big South Player of the Week Honor CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Radford junior first baseman Mark Fleisher was named the Choice Hotels Big South Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season the League announced Monday. Fleisher, a Glen Allen, Va. native, led RU last week by batting .529 last week, hitting 9-for-17 to pace the Highlanders. He had five doubles and two home runs while driving in five RBI to go with six runs scored. He slugged 1.176 and was perfect in the field. He also tallied a quality start on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out six in a no decision against Old Dominion. RU lost four close games last week, dropping one-run decisions against Virginia Tech, Old Dominion and Big South rival Winthrop twice. The Highlanders also beat Winthrop once. Fleisher, who also earned Co-Player of the Week honors on April 6 and Player of the Week honors on April 25, becomes the first-ever Radford player to win the Big South Player of the Week award three times in the same year. It also is the fourth weekly honor for Radford baseball, the first time Radford has had more than three honorees since 1995 when it had six. Junior pitcher Justin Tubb won Pitcher of the Week earlier this year. Radford will host William & Mary and Virginia Commonwealth this week. The Tribe will be at RU today at 3:00 pm while VCU visits Wednesday at 3:00 pm. The Highlanders then close out the regular season at home against Charleston this weekend. |
