Fratoe Amassed Eight RBI as Elon Dispatched Baseball 16-3 ELON, N.C. - Mike Fratoe amassed an astounding eight RBI as Elon dispatched Radford 16-3 Monday afternoon at Latham Park, completing a three-game series sweep of the Big South Conference foe. (Box Score) Fratoe, who entered the contest with just six RBI total for the season, collected a fourth-inning grand slam, a fifth-inning RBI ground-out, a seventh-inning RBI single and an eighth-inning two-run homer as the Phoenix (16-8-1) improved to a best-ever 5-0 in Big South play. Elon, which extended its season-best winning streak to eight games, actually trailed 1-0 entering the fourth frame before breaking the contest wide open. The Phoenix collected five runs in the fourth, five in the fifth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth. Radford (4-11, 0-3) scored once in the third, eighth and ninth. Phoenix starter Tyson Blocker (2-3) worked seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk while fanning six Highlanders. Radford starter Mark Fleisher (0-1) was charged with seven earned runs on four hits and four bases on balls to go with six strikeouts in four innings. Offensively, Elon ended up with advantages in both hits (11-7) and walks (8-1). Radford stranded six baserunners to three for the Phoenix. Neither team committed an error. The Elon onslaught was headed by Fratoe (3-for-5, two runs, eight RBI, two HR), Robbie Smith (2-for-5, run, four RBI, HR), Brian Ingram (1-for-2, four runs, two RBI, three BB, double), Gary Morris (1-for-3, three runs, two BB, double) and Evan Tartaglia (1-for-3, two runs, BB, triple). Nat Hodges (2-for-4, run, RBI, double) led the Highlanders. |
