Walk-Off Homerun Powers Highlanders Past Keydets, 2-1 RADFORD, Va. Mike Tarbox's two-run homerun to right field was the difference Wednesday afternoon at Dedmon Center Park, as Radford defeated VMI, 2-1 in non-conference baseball action. (Box Score) The win improves the Highlanders to 10-14 on the season, while the loss drops the Keydets to 9-17 on the season. The teams played to a scoreless tie until the Keydets were able to get on the board in the ninth as Andy Barden doubled to right field scoring Matt Smith to make the score 1-0. Keith Brunst delivered a one out single up the middle in the ninth to set the stage for junior first baseman Mike Tarbox. Tarbox sailed the second Jeff Demara offering over the right field fence to give the Highlanders the 2-1 victory. Brett Leiberman (1-1) pitched 0.1 innings in relief to pick up his first career victory. Radford starter Mark Fliesher pitched 8.1 innings, tossing five innings of no-hit ball, striking out four and allowing one run. Tarbox led the Highlanders going 1-for-4 with his first homerun of the season and two RBI’s. The Highlanders start a Big South series this weekend (4/6-7) at High Point. |
