House, Radford Hold Off VCU in Baseball, 2-1

RADFORD, Va. – In balmy conditions that had wind gusts over 20 mph, Shaun House's 2-run double to straight away centerfield stood as the difference, as Radford held off Virginia Commonwealth, 2-1 in collegiate baseball action from Dedmon Center Park Tuesday afternoon. (Box Score)

RU and VCU would play scoreless baseball for 5.2 innings, before RU would be able to push two runs across in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of House's two-run double. VCU would cut into the RU (18-28) lead in the top of the seventh adding a single run on an RBI ground out by Nick Jones. But that was all VCU could muster, as Brett Lieberman closed out the Rams with his third save of the season.

VCU's Jose Pabone was the only player to collect multiple hits, going 2-for-5 on the afternoon, as VCU (30-22) out hit RU 6-to-5 and left 14 runners on base. Michael Leishman got hit with the loss falling to 2-2 on the season allowing both RU runs on four hits in 5.2 innings for VCU.

Glen Allen, Va. native Mark Fleisher improved to 2-6 on the season, tossing two innings of two hit ball for the victory. Richmond native and RU starter Brian Williamson was terrific in his first start of the allowing one hit while striking out six in four innings.

Radford next will travel to Winthrop University for their final regular season series, starting with a single game on Friday at 3:00 p.m. before closing out the 2002 Regular season on Saturday with a double-header against the Eagles at noon. VCU next plays at Virginia Tech tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
