#25 JAMES MADISON ROUTS RADFORD 26-2 IN BASEBALL HARRISONBURG, Va. - No. 25 James Madison ran its win streak to eight games with a 26-2 rout of Radford in non-conference college baseball Tuesday afternoon at Long Field. The Dukes improved to 27-7 overall while the Highlanders fell to 11-17. The Dukes scored 15 runs in the bottom of the eighth, and the game was called when it began to rain with one out remaining in the inning. JMU had 19 batters come to the plate in the frame. The JMU record for runs scored in an inning is 16 on March 17, 1981 in the third inning of a 30-2 win against Virginia Military Institute. JMU junior shortstop Nathan Doyle drove in a career-high six runs in a 3-for-6 showing. His two-out triple with the bases loaded in the fourth gave JMU a 4-2 lead. Sophomore center fielder Kurt Isenberg cracked his team-best eighth homer to lead off the Dukes' six-run seventh. Senior co-captain Jason Cushman connected for his first career homer, a three-run blast to left field. In all, 13 batters contributed to the 20-hit total. Junior left-hander Jake Gaiser gained the win with 3 2/3 innings of one hit relief. He struck out four and walked no one to even his record at 1-1. RU starter Mark Fliesher allowed five runs on five hits while striking out six in 5.2 innings. The Highlanders will host ODU tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. |
