Elon Sweeps Radford in Big South Conference Baseball Action RADFORD, Va. Elon University Swept Radford University Sunday afternoon in Big South Conference Baseball action from Dedmon Center Park, 9-7 in game one, and 16-1 in the nightcap. (Game 1 Box Score) (Game 2 Box Score) In game one, Elon (24-9, 6-3) rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth and erase a 7-4 RU advantage to complete the 9-7 comeback victory. Elon would take a 4-2 lead into bottom of the sixth. That's when Radford (12-20, 3-6) would post a four spot in the sixth and take a 6-4 lead. In that inning Radford would collect six hits highlighted by a Shaun House RBI double to center and Nat Hodges double to right center. Daryl Douglass would give the Highlanders a 7-4 cushion with an RBI single in the eighth. Jim Swenson went 3-for-five for the Phoenix with four RBI, including the game tying homerun in the top of the ninth. Taylor Stewart and Jason Tuttle each added two hits for Elon. Keith Brunst went 4-for4 for RU in a losing effort, as the Highlanders out slugged Elon, 14-10. Adam Acosta allowed one hit in two innings of relief to improve to 3-1 on the season. Radford starter Cory Koliscak tossed 8.2 innings allowing eight-runs on nine hits while striking out six. In game two Elon exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to cruise to a 16-1 victory. Gary Morris went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Phoenix. While Wit Bryant belted a three run home run and John Gann added a bases clearing pinch-hit double in the eighth. Ricky Callison and Tuttle each collected a pair of hits to help pace Elon. Shawn Abell went 2- for-2 for Radford. Scott Gvozdas also added a pair of hits for the Highlanders. Mark Fliesher (1-4) allowed 10 runs, all earned, on nine hits in four innings to receive the loss. Matt Garner tossed a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits to improve to 3-1 on the year. The Highlanders will travel to Virginia Tech on Tuesday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. contest, while Elon travels to Campbell on April 16. |
