Cleveland State Outlasts Radford, 12-10 in 13 Innings

RADFORD, Va. - - Cleveland State plated three runs in the top of the 13, to complete an eight run comeback, outlasting Radford University, 12-10, in the final game of the three game series Sunday afternoon at Dedmon Center Park. (Box Score)

Doug Besozzi's single to left started the Cleveland State rally, as Keith McLeod would single up the middle to plate two insurance runs to complete the CSU comeback victory. Cleveland State owned RU pitching all afternoon collecting 23 hits, however left 17 runners on base. RU could only muster 13 hits off three CSU pitchers.

Cleveland State sent the game into extra frames, thanks to a six run ninth inning. That inning was highlighted by McLeod’s two run single to left to tie the game at 9-9. Radford would pull within two, 12-10, as Keith Brunst would leadoff the 13th with a towering home run to left, however that was all the Highlanders could muster.

Brian Beaumier would pick up his first victory of the season tossing two innings of one run two hit relief. Brett Lieberman, suffered the loss for Radford allowing three runs, all earned, on six hits in 4.2 innings.

McLeod went four-for-five with four RBI after entering the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh. Dominic Erney also collected four hits for CSU who improved to 3-14 on the season. Nat Hodges, Kellan Wohlford, Keith Brunst, Shaun House and Shawn Abell each collected a pair of hits for Radford who fell to 8-11 overall.

RU starter Dave Eddinger, would hold the Vikings in check allowing just a run on nine hits through 5.1 innings. However the RU bullpen, could not hold a 9-1 lead, allowing 11 runs, all earned, on 14 hits.

The Highlanders will play game four of their season long eight game home stand, Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Dedmon Center Park.
