In 1988, Radford University became one of the first NCAA Division I schools to bring its basketball broadcasts in-house. In the process, the University became a pioneer in college sports broadcasting, and created the foundation which helped establish the Radford Sports Network as a leader in collegiate sports broadcasting.

Men's Basketball

This year, broadcasts of all Highlander men's basketball games are carried live over SuperTalk 101.7 FM and are available on the Internet through WVRU's web site at http://www.radford.edu/~wvru/

Rick Watson is the voice of the Highlanders, bringing the play-by-play of each game to the airwaves. He is joined by color analyst Jeff Kleppin.

Watson, a 1991 graduate of RU's school of communications, is also the host of Big Dog Sports Talk, a radio call in show in the New River Valley. He and his wife Tracy reside in Blacksburg with their two children.

Kleppin has worked with Radford athletics and RU basketball in several capacities since his graduation with a degree in journalism in 1985. He also holds a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Virginia Tech. He live in Radford with his wife Kathy and their four children.

Women's Basketball

In addition to the men's broadscasts, every women's basketball game is aired live on WRAD (1460 AM). The women's broadcasts are also be available on the Internet through WVRU's web site at http://www.radford.edu/~wvru/

Jerry Massey will serves as the play-by-play voice for the Highlanders. A former student in Radford's school of communications, Massey has assisted in several aspects of the Radford Sports Network over the past few years. He is single and resides in Radford.

For home games, Massey is joined by color analyst Sherri Rickman. Rickman, a former RU standout forward for the Radford women's basketball program , Rickman also works in RU's Sports Informantion Office. Rickman lives in Radford.

For all the away broadcasts, Brian Stanley steps into the role of color analyst. Stanley is a graduate of the University of New Haven with degrees in management of sport industries and business administration. He is also the Highlanders' Assistant Sports Information Director and serves as the primary contact for women's basketball. Stanley resides in Radford.
