Tuition, room & board is considered taxable income by the state of VA. Therefore the net stipend RDs will receive depends on each individual’s tuition, room & board expenses.
-Opportunity to get to interact with various offices around campus
-Reduced free time
-Though this is a challenging 24/7 position, the good memories and experiences make it worth it
-Being an RD is extra training for the real world because you have to make adaptations constantly and embrace flexibility. Variety is the spice of life.
-Make at least one other best RD bud so you have a support system. Support is key.
-Know yourself. Know what you are able to handle and when you need assistance. When you need help, ask!
-If you are not strong in organizing your time, and are having difficulty being flexible, please re evaluate taking on a hall director position. If you do well in these areas, you will do great. Be a team player.
-Being an RA is a good background to have but being an RD is a lot different from being an RA
-Interacting with students is usually fun and enjoyable. Parents, can be the bigger challenge.
-Though I have very little time to myself, its nice to have a position that allows me to make a positive impact on so many people
