Actions taken by Academic Policies & Procedures: 2003 - 2004

Changes in the Schedule Adjustment Period
All have been approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs

New Policy:
Students may drop and/or add undergraduate on-campus courses through midnight of the Sunday following the first week of classes.  Students registered in undergraduate off-campus (extended education) courses will continue to follow the same schedule adjustment policies as those enforced for graduate courses.  (Since some of these courses do not begin until the second week of the semester, students may add and drop these courses until the census date.)

Classes dropped after midnight of the Sunday following the first week of classes will be considered withdrawals, and a “W” will be charged to the student.

[Effective Fall 2004]

Multiple Suspensions

New Policy (replaces current policy on page 49 of catalog):
A student suspended for the first time may not enroll in the next regularly scheduled semester. (Please see readmission information below.) A student who has been suspended once for academic reasons, is readmitted, and who falls below the suspension threshold for a second time is dismissed from the University.  Such a student is permanently ineligible to enroll at Radford in future semesters.

[Effective for students who matriculate Fall 2004 or later.  Currently suspended students will remain under the current policy, which allows for two suspensions and readmission before dismissal.]

Addition to policies for which exceptions are never made (page 54):
“There are several academic requirements for which exceptions are never made, even through the academic petition process . . . qualify for Latin Honors.  In addition, students who are dismissed from the University for academic reasons (see “Terms of Suspension,” page 49) may not petition for readmission.  The college dean . . .”

[Effective Fall 2004]

Academic Policies and Procedures agreed with the recommendation of the Advising Committee not to make any adjustments in the suspension policy itself.

Readmission

New Policy (replaces current policy on page 49 of catalog):
Students who do not maintain continuous enrollment at Radford University for any reason and wish to return must submit an Application for Readmission to the Registrar’s Office regardless of their academic status.Students who left the University in good academic standing (i.e., whose cumulative grade point average at Radford University is 2.0 or higher) and whose records include no conduct/disciplinary offenses or criminal offenses must apply for readmission no less than 10 days, but no more than six months prior to the beginning of the term in which re-enrollment is desired. Students who did not leave the University in good academic standing (i.e., whose grade point average at Radford University is less than 2.0) or whose records include conduct/disciplinary violations or criminal offenses must apply for readmission no less than 30 days, but no more than six months prior to the beginning of the term in which re-enrollment is desired.  Eligibility to re-enroll will be determined after the application is received by the Registrar’s Office.

[Effective Fall 2004]

Second Majors from RU

New Policy (replaces current policy on page 52 of the catalog):
. . .Students who return to Radford University to complete another major or minor (not a degree) must successfully complete only the requirements for that major/minor.  However, students must meet the 2.00 minimum grade point average requirement in courses in which they enroll after their return.  Once a student graduates from Radford University with a Bachelor’s Degree, the GPA is frozen and the student’s academic record starts over.

[Effective Fall 2004]

Revised Summer Graduation Date

Changes the graduation date for students who complete degree requirements during the summer from the last day of the Summer II and Summer III sessions to August 15 or the next business day following August 15.

[Effective Summer 2004]
