Theatre 225. Acting II: Scene Study

Prerequisite: Theatre 125
Training in fundamental techniques of developing a scene for performance. Preparation and performance of audition material. This course will provide an opportunity for theatre majors to learn what is required of the actor to develop the performance of a scene. This course is necessary for the next level of the training of an actor.
The purpose of the course is to train students in fundamental techniques of developing a scene for performance and of developing good audition material.

The course offers a structured and systematic approach to how a scene is performed. By offering examples and giving critiques of the examples and then having the scenes performed again, the student have an opportunity to learn from positive examples and to correct their mistakes accordingly.
At the conclusion of the course the student will be able to perform scenes from various plays. They will understand how an actor approaches a scene and therefore have to apply this knowledge to the larger structure of a play.
The instructor will critique each scene and assess the students on their improvement. Class preparation and participation is weighed heavily.
